My Glossybox Review - What a Disaster!

It's no secret that I'm a product junkie, so when I saw all these beauty box sample programs start to pop up a year or so ago I became intrigued. However, since I literally have boxes and boxes of makeup I decided to hold off on actually participating in any of the programs. Until Glossybox sent me an email about their "spa" box AND a discount coupon. Well, I'm a sucker for spa products. What can I say? I love me some fancy soaps (and coupons)!

So I signed up for the "monthly" subscription, which is $20 a month in September. There are discounts if you sign up for 3 and 6 months or 1 year. It took quite a while for the box to arrive, I would say at least 2-3 weeks, as I received it mid to late October. I took pictures, but they some how managed to disappear from my computer and camera. Poo.

don't get too excited, you don't actually get all of this stuff, just 5 of the products

Anyway, here is what was in it: Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie  Shea Souffle, Heartland Fragrance Co. Loofa Soap, Alterna Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist, ModelCo Lip Duo Lipstick in Dusk and Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Striptease, Alessandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm

However, what's more important that what came in the box is what happened afterwards. What I didn't realize is that apparently Glossybox auto-charges you every month, even when you pick the 1 month option. I had thought that I was puchasing a one time box, but instead I was just paying the full 1 month price every month. I discovered this when I received an email thanking me for my purchase in the middle of November. I immediately went in and cancelled my subscription, thinking to myself "omg I just spent $40 on product samples!" Ugh. Oh wells. Live and learn, right?

Except this is what happened next. Glossybox FORGOT to send out my box! On top of that, when they finally realized it, 3 weeks later, they sent me an email saying they were going to credit my account with 100 "Glossydots" that can go towards a purchase. Yay?

It was now December and I had yet to receive my November box. I checked the status of my order and discovered that it was supposedly delivered on December 5th, the day before. Well, since I had been home all day, I knew this hadn't happened. The only conclusion is that the box was delivered to the wrong address. On top of that, I saw that my account had never been credited with my supposed 100 Glossydots, so even their mediocre way of making up for forgetting about me was apparently meaningless.

I contacted Glossybox, notifying them that while I saw from the tracking info that it was supposed to have been delivered, I never received the box. I got a reply with the tracking information saying that it had been delivered, and that I should contact that Post Office with the tracking number.

I responded that, yes, I knew it had been delivered according to tracking, but that I never actually received it. Also, the Post Office has the same information - just the tracking number - is there anything they can do? On top of that, I let them know that I never received any Glossydots.

They said...Nothing!

Yes, they chose to just ignore me and my emails, disregard the fact that I was charged for a box I never received, a box they forgot to send me, and that their sad way of making up for forgetting to send me my $20 box of samples also never went through. Bleh.

So in conclusion, I can't say I'm too impressed with Glossybox. In fact, pretty much the opposite. Happily, my mother has gifted me with a 3 month subscription to Birchbox, so hopefully my experience with them will be a more positive one!

    1. Hi Jodi - I never heard back from Glossybox but I have started a Birch Box subscription and I've been very pleased with my experiences (and the products so far) - PLUS it's 1/2 the cost!

  3. It's not a one month option, it's a rolling month that charges you every month. I only noticed it on the website myself now

    1. I definitely like Birch Box more (much better customer service), the samples may be smaller, but it's half the price, so I think it's a great deal :)

  9. I have had nothing but disaster dealing with Glossybox too. Got a super damaged box in the mail November, every week I have been in contact and told "it should have shipped, ill look into it" and "we will ship it right away" what a scam. 3 months and nothing and they seem to have 'deleted" my subscription. What an awful company to deal with.

    1. Wow, it sounds like your experience was even worse than mine! I can't believe how bad their customer service is, my account was essentially deleted as well - sorry you've also had a bad experience, at least we are not alone :(

  10. I wish I would've read your post before. My box arrived missing an item, all items covered in black dust? Wrong shades for my complexion and just finally arrived, they charged my account weeks ago and were supposed to ship it weeks ago as well. So disappointed :(

    1. Ugh, they really seem to have a lot of problems. My favorite part is that after ignoring my emails to them, they started sending me promo offers and discounts - As if I would use their product again! I've never had any problems with Birch Box though, and I think I'm going to renew my order with them.

  11. I bought one through the Living Social deal and it was supposed to have arrived two weeks ago. I got an email today that they shipped it today. I've heard that a lot of times when this happens, that they've run out of the product that was supposed to be in the box and they'll give you leftover stuff. I hope that's not the case here.
