A Velvet Sofa Dilemma - How Can Anyone Choose?

Remembering how I was talking about how everything should be made out of velvet? Well, for the past few months I've planned on buying a new car before winter...you know, something that will get me through my first seasons of 10 foot snow drifts. But, I can't quite find a car that I love, so instead of getting a new car, I think I'm just going to go for a slight upgrade...

And instead, I'm going to reupholster my couch and chair. Because that seems like a much more fun use of my big girl dollars. Not to mention, a reupholstering a couch and chair will take significantly fewer dollars than purchasing a new car, even a new to me car.

I've gone back and forth on the material and have settled on velvet. At first I was concerned about how it would hold up, but people's experiences seem to be pretty positive. The question is now, what color. I'm thinking darker is better. It's far more likely to hide any stains and should hold up pretty well to pets, and hopefully, future kiddos.

Seafoam, always a personal favorite, but how will it handle stains and time?

Beautiful silver-gray

Olive green

 Or navy!

Maybe a slightly darker shade of red?

I am really liking this wine color.

Honestly, I could go on and on. What's your favorite? I can't decide between wine, navy, seafoam, or forest green. There are so many beautiful colors to choose from!

The chair in question

Have you ever had velvet furniture? Experiences and/or opinions?

  1. I do not have any experience with this, but I love either the sea foam or the grey. They looks so classy!

  2. I loooove the teal! Where do you find these?! I am due for a sofa upgrade soon and damn this is making me think!

    1. You can get them at the usual [and expensive] places like Pottery Barn, but I'll see if I can hunt down some more affordable places :) I'm just taking some old furniture I have to an upholster to be redone.

  3. They are all gorgeous, but I would lean towards the olive green or the seafoam. But the teal is really pretty too. That's impressive you are going this route with refurbishing what you have. Our couch is about a hundred years old (and not in a cute shabby chic antique-y way) and has been used as a scratchy post for the kitteh, so I think I just want to set ours on fire.

    1. Ha! My couch is pretty beat up because we use to teeth on it as kids - I am not sure how much they can polish that out, but I think it adds some character :P

  4. I think the navy and the silver grey are my favorites. However, they are all very elegant looking! It's so cool that you are going to refurbish on your own!

    1. Thanks! I think the navy is one of my favorites, too, especially if it had brass hobnails - swoon!

  5. i've always wanted a chartreuse velvet couch - but i am loving that grey one and sea foam green one.

  6. I want the silver gray velvet sofa--do you know where I can get it?
    thanks, shelli

  7. Where can I buy the grey velvet button sofa
