New Home, New Decor :: Decorating Inspiration

So we're in our new apartment but nothing is unpacked. Seriously, it's just mountains of boxes in every room. However, as we all know, the main priority when moving to a new place is deciding how you're going to decorate! Here are a few of my favorite pieces and ideas.

For the Office:  History in High Heels (the lovely lady blogger who made my banner) is having a giveaway on her Instagram! Check out her IG account for further details and her Preppy Print Shop in order to pick out your two favorite prints! Mine are I like Big Books and Geek is the New Chic!

For the Bathroom: Tony and I have separate bathrooms! This might be the most exciting thing to have happened to me thus far this year. I've decided to turn my bathroom (which will likely also be the guest bathroom) into a spa paradise. Now, this is just a basic bathroom, but I think with enough bath products, candles, and maybe a plant, it can be done!

For the Bedroom: New pillows are a must! Tony has some kind of grudge against comforters and duvets. I don't know why, but he does. Luckily (?) it's been miserably cold so he didn't put up too much of a fight when I got a new white duvet and I think I'll push the line by adding some shams. I can't decide what direction I want to go in though - I'd like to add some color, but I don't know if I want to go with a print or a solid. I'm usually drawn to blues and greens, but I'm really finding myself attracted to this Marigold Yellow Matine Toile set from Pottery Barn - it's just so cheerful!

For the Guest Room: Our guest room has a fantastic window seat that is begging for adorable cushions! I doubt that I'll be able to get Tony on board with shabby chic, but since our office furniture is dark or rustic wood, maybe I'll go to New England camp decor route and go with ticking. According to Beneath My Heart, I can make DIY window seat cushion in 5 minutes...and the weirdest part is that it actually looks easy!

For the Kitchen: Our kitchen is south facing and has a recessed window, which I think will be perfect for an indoor herb garden! I've never had one before, but this spring seems like a great time to give it a try. Hopefully it will go well and I'll be able to enjoy fresh mint mojitos and juleps (because obviously that's all I'm really interested in). Do you have an indoor garden? Any suggestions?

  1. Love all of this! I would be so happy with a spa bathroom. We are still renting and I dream about the day we move into a house and I can finally attempt to bring my Pinterest boards to life haha! You should definitely do the indoor herb garden - good idea!

  9. Separate bathrooms! Yay! I have a long running list of things that my next (dream) house needs to have, and wide window ledges (for that very purpose) and a window seat are two of the things at the top of the list, haha. Have fun decorating!!

  10. You are so lucky to have separate bathrooms! I can't imagine how much easier my mornings would be if my fiance and I weren't always in each other's way haha! :)

I have a herb garden in the kitchen and I love it! You can also grow potted lettuce too, but not much else inside without serious dedication.

  11. LOVE the yellow bedding! I always try to think of ways I can mix linens up in the future (when I inevitably get bored with them) and yellow pairs well with so many other colors :)
My husband and I have separate bathrooms (mine is also the guest bath) and it is awesome-- I took the big one with all of the storage!

  14. Love the yellow bedding! I had a yellow room for years (walls, bedding, pillows, etc), and decided to paint it grey last summer, with pink accents. I miss the yellow though, and that bedding isn't helping :P
