The Closest I Come to a New Years Resolution :: Disney Princess Half Marathon Training

My half marathon training MO is pretty straightforward - Half ass training for a month, run 8 miles a few days before the race (this being my longest run in weeks) and then show up hoping not to die. I mean, if you've spent 2 or 3 months training, where's the challenge? I want to know that in a time of need or zombie apocalypse, I can pull 13.1 miles out of my ass.

However, I've added a new goal to my Princess Half Marathon that I'm running next week, and that is not only will I not die, I will also look like I am not dying. After all, we are Team Slow But Pretty. The latter is definitely harder than the former. So, it seems I'm going to have to do some kind of training. Here is my last minute 'get it done' training plan for when you only have a month or so to get your body into a state where it is capable of jogging 13.1 miles at a moderate pace.

Week Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri Sat Sun
1 4 Miles Rest 3 Miles Sauna Rest Bikram 6 Miles Warm Yoga Bikram 13 Miles
2 Rest Bikram 5 Miles 4 Miles Bikram 7 Miles Sauna Bikram 16 Miles
3 7 Miles Rest 4 Miles Rest Rest 8 Miles Sauna Rest 19 Miles
4 4 Miles Bikram 6 Miles Sauna 3 Miles Rest 9 Miles Sauna Rest 22 Miles
5 3 Miles Bikram 5 Miles Sauna 4 Miles Rest 12 Miles Sauna Rest 24 Miles
6 5 Miles Bikram 6 Miles Sauna 4 Miles Rest 10 Miles Sauna Rest 25 Miles
7 4 Miles Rest Rest Family 5K Rest Rest Half Marathon 20 Miles

You'll see I'm going a little crazy over the next couple weeks - this is because I'm going to go visit my parents and I have a bunch of yoga classes in their town that I need to use up before they expire. I ran my Nike Women's Half Marathon with hardly any training but after doing a 30 Day Birkam Challenge and it worked out wonderfully. Hopefully the Bikram will add an extra workout and simultaneously prepare me for the 70 degree difference between New York and Florida.

I think this is the closest I am going towards a New Years Resolution. If I actually follow this plan, it will be the most I've ever trained for a half marathon and I will feel like an Olympian afterwards. I'm also hoping I might lose a pound or two.

  1. I hate to run with every ounce of my body but running the Disney Princess half marathon sounds like so much fun!

  2. Love this schedule... and I love hearing how much yoga helped with your running. I need to get back into it, both actually! :)

  3. This plan looks amazing! Best of luck!

  4. This race sounds like so much fun, and I am sure you will look and do awesome! Happy thoughts your way!

  5. I've never heard of the Princess marathon but I'm loving it already! Good luck!

  6. I would love to run a Disney Half someday! At the last half I ran, I also did some half-assed training and during mile 10 I was running with one of the pacer guys and he said "Just because you CAN run 13.1 miles, doesn't mean you should." I didn't really understand until the next day... and the day after that. It took me so long to recover from that one! Next one, I will need to commit to training for sure.

  7. Haha I LOVE the idea of "Team Slow But Pretty"... I think I'd fit right in :) I'm training for my first half in Raleigh right now, but being the Disney fan I am, I definitely want my second to be a Disney one! I can't wait for a recap!

  8. Good luck on your training and your half marathon! I wish it was warm enough to here (Michigan) to run outside...but the negative temps and 15+ inches of snow do not make me want to get out there! Can't wait to hear about how your training and race go.

  9. Awesome Jess, I love running, always relax me <3

  11. ahh - love your resolution! i'm training for a marathon myself and completely understand the struggle :)

  12. I ran a ten miler last year and am hoping to do a half this year! I was thinking about the Disney one but I think I'm gonna stick local. I cannot believe you did the 30 day Bikram challenge. I did Bikram for about 7 months but never 30 days in a row. I haven't gone back in over a year now...I do regular temperature yoga instead ha. :-)

  13. I'm impressed about the half marathon! I've never been a runner, but I do love my bikram as well!!

  14. My sister and I have been wanting to do this so badly! Can't wait to read about your experience!

  15. That is so impressive! I really need to put my running shoes back on. It's been too long!

  16. Great plan! I used to do yoga all of the time, I have know idea why I stopped! New year, start yoga again? I think yes. :)

  17. I am so jealous you are running the disney princess half marathon!!!! Good luck, I am sure you will do great! I just finished my first week of ½ marathon training :)

  18. I miss my bikram so much!!! It's just so expensive and I have to commit to 6 months and I have to get my other foot surgery done but wooo! A half marathon! I can't run except on the elliptical because of my knee.

  19. A half marathon is so impressive. I'm can power walk through a mall like there's a grand prize at the end, but put me in running shoes and expect me to walk/run as actual exercise, and I'm useless. Good luck with the training and race!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
