Pops of Pink

Although I live in the Northeast and plaid is de rigueur for winter, I love to mix it up a bit. This wool plaid skirt from J.Crew is easily one of my new favorites for this season. It uses jewel tones as a fun way to add a little whimsical color to a traditional pattern. The vertical ruffle is a flattering detail that elongates your torso and legs, perfect for those of us who are on the more petite side.

I wanted to make this outfit fun but not over the top. The navy and cool gray in the plaid balance out that bright pop of pink and also make it it easy to match tops if you want to make the skirt the show piece. I paired a neutral sweater from Chelsea28 with fun textures and bell sleeves that complemented the traditional pattern of the skirt, but didn't compete for attention.

A classic navy wool beret, tassel crossbody bag from Kate Spade (similar), and oxfords from Fidji (similar, size up) tied the rest of the outfit together, making it comfortable, cute, and appropriate for every day and work. Add tights and a jacket, and this outfit would be perfect for a snowy day in January.
